An Interview With Brooke Bohinc

Meet Daniela Velasquez-Mora, the Founder of Womankind Creative, a feminist creative agency redefining narratives for unapologetic brands through the lens of the female gaze.

Daniela’s journey in founding Womankind Creative was a bold defiance against societal norms that once restricted her within “good girl” expectations. Rooted in her experience as a first-generation immigrant and third-culture kid, her passionate mission is to challenge outdated norms and uplift women. This personal quest for self-reclamation led Daniela to establish a space defying traditional standards, inviting women not only to be represented but to also embrace their diverse authenticity.

We asked Daniela about the story behind Womankind Creative’s founding, how her upbringing has contributed to how she operates as an entrepreneur, and what’s next for her and her company.

Tell us the story behind your company’s founding. How and why did you start working on Womankind Creative?

Womankind Creative is my act of resistance against the silent narratives I once allowed to define me. Trapped by the “good girl” ideals and shrinking myself for societal validation, I chose to break free—an era of self-reclamation. The rage that fueled my dissent wasn't just personal. It was universal—a collective outcry against the molds we're expected to fit. In starting Womankind Creative, I wanted to challenge the status quo and create something different—a space where younger generations and today's women wouldn't have to conform to outdated ideals.

What problem does Womankind Creative solve?

Womankind Creative is a feminist creative studio, and our mission is to dispel outdated narratives and standards that can be oppressive and sexist. We represent women as they want to be seen, celebrating their multi-dimensionality and full authenticity.

What makes Womankind Creative different from similar companies in the industry?

Womankind Creative is uncompromising in its mission. Period. We create exclusively for the female gaze, and we solely partner with brands that are as daring in their advocacy for women as we are.

In what ways has your upbringing or past experiences contributed to how you operate as an entrepreneur?

As a first-generation immigrant and third-culture kid, not fitting into the “mainstream” mold shaped my self-concept. It's because I relate to being an outsider and the pain it causes that I want to ensure that every woman—especially those who feel unseen—finds more than representation. I want them to find a profound and empowering sense of belonging and acceptance.

Have you ever felt like you’re “different”? If yes, in what ways has this contributed to your journey as an entrepreneur?

I am no stranger to feeling different than others, but it has always been in my nature to go against the grain. Growing up as a Colombian abroad in Egypt and primarily around Americans in American schools, I felt the pressure to assimilate and downplay my cultural identity. This personal experience of otherness drives me to seek inclusion, affirmation, and celebration for those who may feel marginalized or underrepresented—which is at the core of what we do at Womankind Creative.

What were the most difficult and most impactful lessons you’ve learned starting and running a company?

Striking a balance between present and future-thinking, never too trapped in either perspective. Instead, moving with intention and joy, ensuring that today builds toward a fulfilling tomorrow.

It's because I relate to being an outsider and the pain it causes that I want to ensure that every woman—especially those who feel unseen—finds more than representation.

How have you grown as a leader since starting Womankind Creative? What experiences have contributed to this growth?

Womankind Creative is a manifestation of my journey to self: learning to embrace the courage to not hide and show up authentically without shame. As a leader, I refuse to posture or put on a façade. I lead with the vulnerability and audacity that defines my truth. Here, we cultivate a space where we can all show up unapologetically whole and radically embodied.

What would you tell your younger self if you were to start your entrepreneurial journey all over again?

We did it. We've become the creative director we dreamt of. It's been a wild ride, but it’s so worth becoming who you're meant to be. Embrace every detour as a clever nudge towards your greatness. No matter what, stay the course. Every "no" is simply a redirection or a “not yet.” The “yes” that changes everything is on its way

What’s next for you and Womankind Creative?

Womankind Creative is on the rise. We're growing our reach, rallying support, and focusing on connections with allies that share our vision. We won't stop until we make everyone women-positive, building a culture that celebrates authentic womanhood. We're here to dismantle archaic narratives, champion women's empowerment, and challenge the status quo—brand by brand.
