An Interview With Brooke Bohinc

Meet Sarah Lambert, the Founder of Sarah Lambert Consulting, a community empowering entrepreneurs to step into their leadership capabilities and build scalable online businesses with ease and integrity.

Sarah ventured into entrepreneurship as a side gig while working a corporate role. After simultaneously growing her photography business and becoming a mother, she recognized  a gap in the photography market. As a result, she created a beginners photography course specifically designed for moms. Within a year, Sarah had generated six figures from the course, left her full-time job, and was fielding questions from fellow entrepreneurs about how she had scaled. It was then a natural transition for Sarah to move into a consulting role to help others find the freedom to do what they love with financial gains.

We asked Sarah about what she wishes she had known before starting her online business, what success looks like to her, and how she would summarize the journey she’s been on so far.

Tell us the story behind your company. How and why did you start working on Sarah Lambert Consulting?

My entrepreneurial journey started in 2017 when I was working in corporate and launched a family photography side hustle. It has since evolved to a multiple six-figure coaching and consulting business for entrepreneurs who want to scale with ease and integrity.

When I started the business, it was to explore entrepreneurship. I knew I wanted to create courses and build wealth through passive income at some point, but I didn’t quite know how. Once I got into photography, I quickly saw an opportunity for a beginner photography course for moms, which I created and launched in 2019 while on maternity leave. It took off. I had 200 people take it the first year, and I made six figures, enabling me to leave corporate.

After that, many other entrepreneurs started reaching out for advice on how to scale their businesses, so I organically started mentoring and coaching. Since then, I’ve moved completely into the coaching and consulting space. I help entrepreneurs step into their power and leadership while creating scalable online businesses with courses and signature programs. I’m passionate about helping others find freedom to do what they love and make money.

In what ways has your upbringing or past experiences contributed to how you operate as an entrepreneur?

Growing up, I really struggled in school. I would work so hard, but my grades were always average at best. Because of that, I’ve become an incredible course creator because I know how to simplify difficult concepts.

That struggle also created a lot of mindset blocks for me. I believed success would only come through working hard. My work has been to undo that mindset so I can build success without the struggle. It has helped me grow so much as a human and given me the tools to fully support my clients in building their programs and working through their mindset blocks so they too can achieve their biggest goals and dreams.

In order to lead powerfully while maintaining integrity and feeling good, you have to have the emotional intelligence to navigate everything that’s required of you.

Have you struggled with self-doubt as an entrepreneur? How do you navigate this?

I’ve definitely struggled with self-doubt as an entrepreneur. Year after year, I set huge goals for myself and surround myself with other women doing incredible things. Sometimes this can be triggering.

I’ve navigated this by learning how to use my triggers for growth. Big goals allow you to rise to meet them. I’ve created a framework that my clients and I use to process my emotions along the way so I am always growing and evolving, while honoring the emotions and fears that come.

Have you felt like giving up? What made you persist?

I’ve never felt like giving up because I’ve never given myself that option. Has it always been easy? No. I’ve had two kids since starting my online business in 2019, so it’s been a lot, but there are three reasons I’ll never stop:

My purpose: I know I’m here to help others expand their impact and create both time and financial freedom.

My freedom: My business allows me the freedom to live my life. I could never go back to working 40 hours a week for anyone else.

My family: I know my kids are watching, and I want to show them what’s possible when you’re dedicated to your goals and dreams.

Has your definition of success evolved throughout your journey as a founder?

My definition of success has evolved over my journey as a founder, especially over the last year. I’ve always valued time and financial freedom, which is the goal and intention behind my business. When I found wholeness and happiness within, I didn’t need anything external to feel successful.

My impact, my love, and my work is what makes me successful—no matter how much I’m making or how many hours I’m working. That has been the biggest shift for me, as well as the most freeing and fulfilling.

Have you discovered any underappreciated leadership traits or misconceptions around leadership?

Emotional intelligence is the most underappreciated leadership trait. It’s also the most powerful. In order to lead powerfully while maintaining integrity and feeling good, you have to have the emotional intelligence to navigate everything that’s required of you. One of the biggest misconceptions around leadership is that you have to know it all.

What would you tell your younger self if you were to start your entrepreneurial journey all over again?

It’s all about the journey. You’ll never “arrive.” As you achieve your goals, they’ll grow. Learning to enjoy the journey is a process of healing. To truly be able to do this, you need to heal.

What’s next for you and Sarah Lambert Consulting?

So much has shifted for me over the past six months, and I have never been more clear about my purpose. The next phase of the company will be all about helping people on a deep level to step into their power and leadership to share their work with the world. Personally, I’ve recently been given a book deal, so I will be focused on that over the next year.
